Love has no bounds, and you can’t blame gravity if you fall in love. It can happen anywhere, at any time, and to anyone. For instance, a lion and a tiger.
Cameron the lion and Zabu the white tigress were raised together at a roadside zoo in New Hampshire, New England, with one goal in mind: to one day give birth to ligers (hybrid offspring of a male lion and a female tiger). Cameron was 200 pounds underweight, and Zabu had a genetic flaw due to inbreeding (yes, white tigers like Zabu don’t even exist in the wild because they can’t hide from attack or hunt their prey).
Despite all odds and despite all obstacles, they remained madly in love with one another.
When they were both four years old, the unlikely couple was rescued by Big Cat Rescue. Their lives were drastically altered as a result of these selfless rescuers. They even built a large enclosure for them so that these two love bugs could enjoy their freedom and live as happily as they could, of course with each other.
Zabu was the first to be spayed, but it only lasted a few years before she became ill and Cameron became overly possessive of his partner. Because his aggressive behavior could endanger himself and others, the keepers decided he needed to be neutered or separated from Zabu. Cameron, on the other hand, was neutered, even if it meant losing his gorgeous mane.
Cameron was much calmer after the surgery, and the hair loss didn’t bother the lovey-dovey couple at all. They had a happy life together for nearly 20 years until Cameron died in February 2019 of liver cancer.
“We will miss his roars across Tiger Lake, as well as his joyful antics with his toys,” the rescuers wrote on their website. “We will miss seeing the love he and Zabu shared in daily baths and spooning naps.” Cameron was the cat who should have inspired us to put an end to the practice of breeding wild cats for life in cages.”
abu left this world only one month after his departure. And, as their rescuers wrote, “now they are together forever”.
Just take a moment to admire their beautiful bond:
Please share Cameron and Zabu’s touching love story with your friends and family.
