A bit of research shows that this is the tunnel in which the “Cavern Summer Festival” used to be held in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture. The tunnel is one among many left over in the area from the WWII era.

The stillness of the caves has allowed the decorations from a tanabata celebration some years ago to hold up -which only creates a more unsettling feeling in the unoccupied caves, some seven years since the last festival. The torii gate OP ventured to is for a small inari shrine.

In deeper parts of the cave system, OP – an urban explorer – also discovered the wreck of a k-truck, rusted almost beyond recognition.
