A woman discovered a snake popping out of a bag of popcorn inside her shopping cart while she was doing her groceries.
Kimberly Slaughter was browsing through items at a Shoppers Value store located in Lunenburg County, Virginia. She looked at her shopping cart and noticed what she believed to be mouse feces on bag of popcorn, WTVR reported.
Slaughter told the news outlet:
I was like, I’m not getting that bag. So I put it on the bottom shelf because there was already mouse poop covering the bottom shelves.
While Slaughter was about to place the bag of popcorn back to the shelf, she noticed that it had a small hole in the top right corner.
The snake popped out of the bag and went around the cart before returning inside the bag.
The thing had popped out, and you know, I was like, oh, well, hi! … It was the full length of the cart. It had prime real estate though.
Slaughter informed the employee about the issue while she she had the shopping cart with the popcorn bag and snake inside. She said:
They’re like, this doesn’t ever happen here. But the bottom shelf has no merchandise on it because of the simple fact that mice get on it.
An employee removed the snake from the store, and Slaughter said her friends told her it was a rat snake based on the photos she had shared with them. She felt relieved that she did not return home with the bag of popcorn and said:”
I have a baby, and he is just starting to walk. So imagine if he was a little bit older, or if my niece had gone and been like, ‘hey, I want some popcorn’ and grabbed that bag and it bit her. It’s not safe. It’s not healthy.
According to Fox 5, the store manager, Brian Stanley, said the store is investigating the issue.
We have no idea where it came from. We are investigating trying to find out where it came from, but we have no other indication that there could be any others.
