The threat of illegal poaching to our declining animal population is quite real. According to ilovemydogsomuch.com, Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick, a well-known wildlife activist, has dedicated her life to caring for the newborn elephants left orphaned by the ruthless poachers who kill adult elephants for their tusks.
In 1977, Daphne changed her attention to orphaned elephants. The baby elephants found it extremely challenging at first to survive without their mothers. But over time, Daphne’s tenacious investigation allowed her to design a unique feeding-milk formula that gives elephants the proper nutrition they need to grow normally.
Each elephant that Daphne raises views her as a mother. Elephants have a deep feeling of family, which explains why they always run to embrace their adoptive mother. Later in life, Daphne became aware of the widespread rhino poaching for their horns. She therefore expanded her cause to include rhinos.
When they are old enough, Daphne releases every animal she has raised back into its native environment. Sadly, because of its appeal on the black market, the ivory tusk trade and other illegal animal-based smuggling continue to flourish, endangering the lives of these animals. Raise our voices in opposition to this horrific trade.
