The racehorse breeding business is fiercely competitive. According to ilovemydogsomuch, breeders encourage mares to have as many foals as possible, but their primary objective is to obtain the priceless milk from nursing mothers in order to raise competent thoroughbreds for racing.
The owner of Last Chance Corral, Victoria Goss, steps in to save the unwanted foals as they are abandoned and left to perish. She provides for these infants and enables them to live without their mother. She has significantly lowered the death rate of early foals compared to the industry average through her tireless efforts.
Since she was 12 years old, Victoria has taken care of horses. Her heart breaks for these abandoned foals, but she is unable to hire a talented crew because of financial constraints. When volunteers are available, she makes use of their assistance, but she mostly manages the refuge alone.
Unfortunately, the assistance offered to these foals is grossly out of proportion to the enormous number of horses being bred and dumped. Due to her limited resources, she has to reject numerous foals every day, which just tears her heart. Our hearts have been pulled by Victoria’s unselfish mission. Visit Last Chance Corral’s Facebook page if you want to support the cause or adopt a horse.
