Ploy Thong, who is blind in both eyes, is thought to be around 30 years old. Previously, he carried tourists on his back for 16 years in Thailand’s Pattaya region, only using his trunk to smell his routes while people used it for a walk.
Ploy Thong had previously worked in the circus. Employees of the Save Elephant Foundation noticed Ploy Thong’s difficulties while releasing another elephant, Bua Keaw, and negotiated a path to freedom with his owner.
