Art is diverse and varies from individual to individual. Among the many forms of art, paper cutting is a particularly captivating one.
The craft of paper cutting can be quite challenging, but the end result is exquisite. Patience and a steady hand are essential to create this art form.
This art form is widely renowned throughout the world and in Japan, it is referred to as Kirie.
Japanese artist Masayo Fukuda is a master of this craft and creates truly remarkable works. In paper cutting, a plain white sheet is used to carve out the desired design, which is then displayed against a contrasting black background.
Masayo has honed his skills in this art form for over 25 years and his finest work was displayed in 2018 – a life-sized octopus. It’s truly impressive, appearing like a pen drawing but created entirely through paper cutting.
These creatures have the ability to change their color to blend in with their surroundings. Masayo has expertly crafted each part of the octopus, incorporating various textures that resemble lace patterns. The design is placed on a black background to highlight the intricate details clearly.
