Monica Canova has been sharing her home for some time with an uninvited — but adorable — little housemate who now lives in her kitchen.
Canova gave him the nickname Mousey. He’s a rat.
Despite being on first names terms with the small rodent now, things didn’t start out so well. Canova’s reaction was far colder when she first noticed him. But that sensation was fleeting.
Canova told The Dodo, “The first time I saw him, I thought, ‘Well, that’s sorta gross.'” “However, as I got closer to him, I noticed he had the cutest, most perfect little ears.” [He] raised his head to greet me. And I just couldn’t leave him alone.”
Mousey has mostly kept to himself since then, but when he does appear, Canova seems to find it unexpectedly delightful.

Sure, it’s easy to imagine some drawbacks to living with a mouse, but Canova has taken Mousey’s presence in stride, preferring to make peace with him rather than try to evict him.
“As much as having a mouse as a roommate isn’t ideal, I feel too bad to evict him,” Canova said, adding that Mousey appears to have warmed to the hospitality. “I believe he believes he owns the place.”
